Injuries and their terrible toll
Published on February 16, 2004 By Foolhandy In Sports & Leisure
I don't have a bad injury but I have been prevented from going to the gym this evening. Not that I'm devastated but...it is typical really.

After my world trip I was somewhat less fit (and somewhat bigger) than I had been when I left Seychelles and so the gym, badminton & football I've been doing has a bit of a physical struggle. Well, yesterday at football I actually began to feel the benefit of it all. I'm nowhere (anywhere!) near Seychelles levels of fitness but I played on the wing and was up and down there in a way that would have been unthinkable a few weeks ago. This feeling of progress has, of course, set me up wonderfully for a half-term (holiday - ha!) of exercise.

But...typically I pulled/strained/tweaked/whatever-it-is-that-causes-you-not-to-be-able-to-put-any-weight-on-your-foot-when-it's-not-flat-on-the-floor my calf muscle whilst putting in that much improved footballing performance. So no gym tonight, no badminton Wednesday. Possibly gym on Thursday but...what a waste of all this free time eh?

As soon as it starts to become easier, something crops up to make it harder...
